DIVE LOG JUNE 2025 issue 412

Peter. An easy entry from the steps with my husband exploring from the kayak. WHAT A DIVE! I was excited about seeing a leafy sea dragon but I hadn’t expected as much other sea life as we saw. We spent 93 minutes exploring under the jetties, some areas are no diving areas because of the instability and condition of the old jetty, this is why it’s best to dive with a local. It was well worth hiring Peter as a dive guide, we saw five leafy sea dragons. He was so patient letting me just watch, take photos and take my time. Something I love about Peters’ approach, he will only take other divers if they know each other, so it was only me on the dive with him. The leafy sea dragons were amazing, they move so differently from their close relatives the weedy sea dragons which I usually see. Their gentle undulation is so relaxing just to sit and watch their movements amongst the sea grasses. As Peter toured me under some piers and around others, I was impressed with the diversity of the marine life in and around the piers. We must have seen fifteen southern blue devil fish, two long snouted boarfish, cuttlefish, nudibranchs, scallops, and a lot of other local species I was unfamiliar with. A dive with Peter…wow…I need to go back; and not just for the leafy sea dragons.
