DIVE LOG JUNE 2025 issue 412

The Wallet Wreck A small unknown wreck of about 500 tons sitting on beautiful white sand in 40m of water. Called the “ Wallet Wreck ”, why you ask “ Wallet wreck ”? Well, simply because the wreck is like a wallet, not full of money, the wreck is alive with marine Life— soft coral, black coral, snappers and fish species I just do not know or recognise. Visibility on the day was well over 30 meters, simply fantastic, something I haven’t experienced in a long time, not since the “Georges Wreck” outside Rabaul Harbour. It’s a small ship with nothing much to pilfer (sorry, pick up and put back), but it’s a photographer’s dream wreck. If you intend to visit Colombo, you will find many

dive operators. I recommended a small dive company called “Scuba Ceylon Diving Centre Colombo”. contact Senura Senadeera +94 77 400 8814 on WhatsApp. If you would like some first-hand information, please get in touch with me at 0408 738 739 or email me at fritzherscheid@gmail.com. Editor’s Note: The sixty thousand mile voyage of the SMS Sea Wolf under Captain Karl Nerger is one of the deadliest and most unbelieveable voyages of WW 1. But it is true! It was meant to be a suicide mission to destroy allied supplies including shipping around Australia, New Zealand and Sri Lanka. She sank 35 ships using 450 mines and torpedoes on a deadly 15 month voyage carrying 451 prisoners. Captain Nerger became one of the most decorated German officers of all time. He treated the prisoners well and returned safely to Kiel, Germany as a hero.
