Apparently, after a 33-year of service, in 1994, she was off to the breakers in India to be scrapped. She magically sprung a leak in the hold when some 6 km West of Lavina and sunk. Boat details Pecheur Breton , formerly Echo , is a Reefer built in 1961 by Scheepswerf De Hoop Lobith in Tolkamer, Netherlands: length 88 m, width 12 m and a gross tonnage of 1827 tons. The Medhufaru Sitting upright on the sandy bottom, the Medhufaru is an excellent shipwreck dive. There
is lots to see, and cargo is strewn everywhere, providing fantastic photo opportunities. There is good penetration to most parts of the ship. If you are lucky enough to lose your guide, duck off to the engine room, but be careful; it can silt up very quickly. The Medhufaru is an easy and pleasant shipwreck to dive. She is on an even keel with the bridge deck at only 14 meters and the sandy bottom at 30 meters. In the bridge (easy penetration), you can still see old-school computers, printers, and air conditioners. The ship foundered during the 2009 monsoon, and I’m not surprised she was loaded to the hilt— a massive load of construction material, including large cement mixers on the deck. Many large
