DIVE LOG AUSTRALASIA ISSUE 413 AUGUST 25

since the twin engine dive boats are landing directly at the powder sand beach in front of the dive centre and bungalows. There are only few steps from “bed to diving”. Each bungalow has a little veranda, a very comfortable bed with mosquito net, a ceiling fan but no air condition. Due to the easterly direction of the beach the area does not get too hot in the afternoon, when the sun is behind the jungle mountain. Thus, the ceiling fan is sufficient to provide a cooler breeze and air-condition is not needed. At night it got cooler as expected and I even used the sheets. For underwater photographers, there is a table for camera maintenance and sockets for charging batteries in the bungalows. For maintaining a bigger camera rig there is also a dedicated camera room in the diving base.At the rear of the bungalows the outdoor bathroom has a hot water shower, with a spectacular view on the coconut palm trees and music from a lot of different exotic birds. Since the freshwater comes from a spring located on the hill, it is not salty at all and is not affected by brackish water.

The chefs from Manado and Java spoiled us with plentiful freshly prepared meals, taking into account our individually preferences. The fish was cooked to perfection! Particular worthy of mention was a delicious liquid chocolate cake and even ice cream, which I would have never expected in such a remote area. The combination of extraordinary diving, warm hospitality, exclusive and exceptional location within this very special environment makes it well worth the long-distance travel.
