Porthole of the I-169 at 40 m

All of the wrecks in Chuuk Lagoon have a very powerful impact on you. The more you learn about each wreck, the more you appreciate its significance as a sacred war grave and historical museum site.

One such wreck is the I 169 submarine. It lies in 40 m. She was lost when she dived during a U.S. bombing raid with her hatch open. More than 84 submariners suffocated to death becasue they could not be rescued.
