DIVE LOG AUSTRALASIA FEB 2026

Diver etiquette is an important feature of U/W photography. I always tell my models that I will only utilise their time for two minutes at a time maybe twice in a dive. They want to enjoy their dive as well. When I find a subject that I like such as a colour window, I take test shots without the model to balance flashlight, marine life, natural background light and so on. Never waste the time of your dive buddies. When I get all of the elements under control, I call in the model and take just a few shots concentrating on composition and positioning the model where you want them to be. Bingo! Husband and wife pairs often end up brawling after a very long photo shoot. The model wants to have fun too! Nikon D200 with Tokina 10 to 17mm Zoom

It is most important to please yourself and develop your own style of u/w photography. Everyone copies everybody all the time. I like this guard rail colonised with colourful exotic marine growth with nice blue light background.
