DIVE LOG AUSTRALASIA FEB 2025 ISSUE 410
My buddy admiring the roof of this coral cave.
We voted as a group to name one of my favorite dive spots as “ Two Dogs”. We had seen two Dog Tooth Tuna during the dive. This dive was one of the fishiest dives I have seen in decades. Schools of swirling baitfish interspersed with shoaling Fusiliers and Fairy Basslets. During the course of the dive, I saw Footballer Trout, Variola Trout, Leopard Trout, lots of coral Cod and so many smaller reef fish. We did a night dive here and found a few Turtles and an Epaulette shark. The Parrotfish were
sleeping in their mucous cocoons and sleepy Butterfly fish tried to find a hidey hole in a coral crevice. Without a doubt, Great Detached reef ranks as the best diving on the Great Barrier Reef. Its sheer variety of marine life, coral ecosystems, undiscovered reefs make it an unspoilt divers dream destination. The reefs here are healthy and have rich coral growth. Best of all, less than two or three hundreds of divers get here each year.
