• The House of Representatives passed legislation during July to set up a national Environment Protection Agency that would target businesses found to have spoilt the environment in breach of federal laws. They will target offences to do with hazardous waste, sea dumping, air quality and wildlife trafficking, and have the ability to impose fines of up to $780m for serious intentional breaches. Rapid Bay jetties
• You need a council permit to dive, snorkel or freedive at the Whyalla jetty. Soon after the jetty was built, the local council decided that diving would interfere with the fishing there and passed bylaws making it illegal to dive there, unless with a council permit. Access to the water at the jetty is made difficult by the fact that there are no ladders or steps available there. • The Sea Dragon Dive Lodge in Second Valley is only a 10-min drive from Rapid Bay jetty. Peter & Ilona give professional air fills and provide dive tanks, weights & trolleys for hire. The lodge now boasts a new air fill compressor. Visitor accommodation is available thanks to a bedroom with a queen bed and another bedroom with 2 king size single beds, a bathroom, studio room
