DIVE LOG AUSTRALASIA FEB 2026

The sharks here give you many chances to take photographs from many angles!

disappoint in any way. For the first time here I was able to do some dives ‘around the corner’ where the wall does not dive so steeply into the depths, and found that the terrain here was full of life, with different fish species and many octopus flitting about. There are dives that give you the chance to see other species of shark, including threshers, hammerheads, silvertips, white-tips and more. The hard ones to see here are the oceanic whitetips and the Herbst’s nurse sharks, but it does happen to a lucky few. The island itself is a very pleasant place to be, with good accommodation choices and excellent restaurants. For the non-divers there is not a lot, with an island tour taking around an hour or so. There is a mud bath you can go to, and beaches to walk on. There is not really a good swimming beach on the island, but plenty of pool options. Just as I write this, the island has had its first encounter with a pod of killer whales, you never quite can be sure what this place will throw into your path! A must-see island for those that have an affinity with sharks.

Check out the 2026 trips I am leading to Palau, Atmosphere Resort in the Philippines, and Timor Leste for the blue whales on my website: www.kenhoppenphotography.com.au Spaces are still available on all trips at the time of writing. Fuvahmulah Scuba Club With some of the most impressive shark diving guides I have ever had to pleasure to work with, this place has to be on your bucket list. The Shark Residence was where I stayed. It was beautifully kept, very comfortable and had great air conditioning, a must in such a hot climate. It is a short walk to restaurants and can be found on the scuba club website. www.fuvahmulahscubaclub.com

Black trevally are present on nearly every dive.
