Tiger sharks here come in close

It’s not often I travel to the same destination twice within eight months. There has to be something special there to warrant the effort. And Fuvahmulah has that aspect about it. This remote island in the southern Maldives is renowned for its shark-filled waters and won’t fail to disappoint. Shark Point is arguably the best tiger shark dive in the world. Located just outside the harbor mouth of the

little harbour on the southern end of the island, divers begin gearing up before the boat has slipped its mooring, and if you haven’t gotten a move on you won’t be ready to jump on the signal. Two minutes is about your travel time. A local dive guide or two jump in the water first, negative entry, and wait under the water for the group of divers to follow. Normally the group jumps a hundred metres or so to the north of the harbour, along the nearly vertical wall that surrounds this Indian Ocean Island. From there

Most of this low-lying island is taken with human habitation, but there are still places of natural tropical beauty.
