420 Dive Log Australasia OCTOBER 2026
gropers here are numerous and very interactive and there’s an abundance of fish. A few kilometres south, Broulee Island offers hours of hypnotic underwater scenes. Just metres from shore, I’ve marvelled at sharks, soft corals and so many fish. The break-wall of gem-coloured Wagonga Inlet offers excellent snorkelling. You can even spot stingrays from the walkways and near the fish-cleaning stations. Near Mystery Bay, tiny Billies Beach is so vividly volcanic, it looks still-molten. I didn’t venture into the water when I walked down with morning coffee in hand from our nearby accommodation, however there were several people lingering in the water. This unspoiled section of the south coast combines compelling snorkelling with rural vistas straight from a dairy commercial . My favourite places to stay encapsulate the combination of stunning scenery and far- flung vibes. At Oakleigh Farm Cottages- created from an erstwhile dairy farm- it’s just a short walk to a wilderness beach you’ll most likely have all to yourself. Mystery Bay Cottages are private and well appointed and a nearby path leads to Billies Beach. www.eurobodalla.com.au
