vegetation. Over eons of time, they developed into separate species. He observed that the shape of their beaks was best suited to their various diet. Some finches fed on insects whilst others fed on seeds or grubs. They had developed beaks best suited to their lifestyle until they eventually became unable to interbreed with finches from other islands or the mainland. As each new species was geograpahically isolated, they evolved in geographical isolation to best suit their lifestyle on each island. INCREASING COMPLEXITY OF LIFE OVER THE EONS The combination of natural variation, and environmental pressure and change has seen a progressive increase in complexity of life forms from simple to more complex over the last few billion years.Three Billion years ago, simple lifeforms like Blue Green Algae created slime. The atmosphere had no oxygen and was toxic.
Billions of years later, more sophisticated plant life developed. The atmosphere had 37% Oxygen and had become more conducive to life. More complex cells with a proper Nucleus evolved and somehow learned to live in collections of cells to form multi-cellular organisms. We observe, moss, lichen, large sea weeds and eventually massive trees with circulatory systems and the ability to live on land; e.g. Conifers and flowering plants. FOSSIL RECORD Evolutionary pathways can be traced. Some Syngnathids have tail brooding and others have pouch breeding groups. This suggests that the Giant Pipe fish and the Weedy Sea Dragons are more closely related than they are to male pouch breeding Sea Horse. The Ghost Pipe fish has a female pouch breeding lifestyle so are different to the Syngnathids. They are in a separate family the Solenostomidae.
