Creativity and personal identity Machines can do most of the thinking today in so many areas of life. People born last century gasp in horror when they see someone who reaches for the calculator to calculate 2 times 2 times 2. Loss of basic skills equate to loss of identity as machines gradually take over more and more of our lives. Calling all us zombies out there. This is a massive wake up call as we succumb to Sky Net’s commands. We are living in a sea of absolute mind control which is only going to get worse as AI tries to assume our entire identity and turn us into automotoms. In fact, it affects all of us. It is something to be aware of. Sky Net is real and it is here; The Termninator movie is manifest in our daily lives. We will have to stand up to Big Brother to regain our individualtiy and personal freedom. The reality is that Hi - Tec machines are overtaking photography now. A mobile phone or a Go Pro can easily surpass a sophisticated $15,000 camera housing system. The computer chips within decide on the settings for the operator. The photographer does not need to understand anything about cameras or light or settings but they can “do good” photography. Child’s play, you might say. The fact
remains that it is not the camera that takes the shot. It is the skill of the photographer that makes the final difference. As computerised cameras get better and better, more and more SLR style cameras go the way of the dinosaurs. That is where I am at. Once you stop full time work, you can take on the limitless challenge of the mastery of photography. It is a worthwhile pursuit filled with so many rewards. As to the future, the principles of good photography will become even more important especially with regard to composition and personal style. The way forward is using your innate human intelligence, H.I., using your brain and your imagination and develop your own personal style and express your own personality whilst not conforming to the Zeitgeist. (The accepted way of thinking according to Big Brother. Albert Einstein stated that Imagination is far powerful than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination is not. As humans struggle for their personal identity, using your imagination and creating something is the way forward. Personally, I get a great deal of satisfaction from producing Dive Log Australasia as it is my ‘work of art’, so to speak. For me,
The Old Wives, Enoplosus armatus are one of the most beautiful and under rated fish from southern Australia
