This photo in a cave in the Solomon Islands of four buddies and the watery surface reflection appeals to my sense of a good photo. You have to talk the photo over before the dive so everyone knows what to do.

However, there are situations when two or three main subjects can enhance the photo. Something in our brains makes threesomes appealing such as in the photo of three squid at night in formation. This photo from a night dive in Komodo was the one out of ten that all three squid were in a reasonable focus. All of the other nine had one squid out of focus. That is why you need to take plenty of shots

Ask yourself: What am I trying to do? What is the main subject? How can I capture the light? Is there a story here? How can I make the viewer see the best angle. Your photos should start to look like you meant to take that shot
