Shoot in RAW
Shooting in RAW means that you have more processing power for those all-important post-production ‘cheating’ sessions. However, as time goes by, I have come to regard this as “good” cheating! L enses have a sweet spot. Shooting at f2.8 is not utilising the best optics of a lens. Similarly shooting at f25. gebnerally, the best optics are in the middle say f8, f11 to f16. It is known as the sweet spot! Compact cameras Can be more effective than large SLR housings in a lot of situations. They have composite lenses with great depth of field. Also, you can push these small cameras inside a cave to get a little closer to that wobbegong or a Bamboo shark hiding inside a little cave or crevice. With my monster housing, I simply miss these excellent opportunities. Photographing sharks and Rays is a most exciting challenge. It is rewarding to nail the shot and have a record of one of your most exhilarating life experiences. You can read more about underwater photography in my web site, www.mikescotland.com.au. It is designed to help underwater photographers progress. It is filled with many hints and tips for all sorts of photography. One of the best tips is to enjoy other people’s photos and try to work out how they took the shot!
