Blink and you miss it John Magee

The Red Spotted Blenny.

This little guy is not one you see every day on the reef but is very beautiful with markings a bit like a David Bowie make up cheeky face. They live on the top part of the reef from 5mts down to about 10 mts mainly where the Alge is they feed on. Mainly from Asia down the Great barrier reef is where you will find them. They are mainly peace ful but may sometimes bite or attack other herbi vores like tangs in their territory or at the mating time of the year. So out on the reef keep your eyes open for the clownish face peeking out of a worm hole and looking very nosey. Blink and you may miss it. This little fish is not one that you get to see every day on the reef, but with markings resembling a David Bowie look, its cheeky face well makes up for the time spent searching. These creatures live in the shallows, usually from 5 to 10 meters, mostly due to the algae that they feed on also preferring these conditions. They are a generally peaceful species but can be territorial if pro voked, attacking other herbivores like surgeonfish that find their way into their territory. They are es pecially feisty around mating season as well… So, next time you are on the reef, keep your eyes open for this flamboyant little face, peering out at you curiously.

Blink and you’ll miss it.
