411 Dive Log Australasia April 2025
David Mullins
To me, Underwater Photography has been a journey. It’s a journey of technical availability and competence. It is a journey of finding photographic subjects and understanding them. It’s a journey of failures and successes. It’s a journey of creativity and patience. It’s a journey of improvement and personal fulfilment. It’s a journey of life. I’ve been lucky to have enjoyed the journey for over 50 years now. I learn every day. I started with a simple “Box Brownie” - the Nemrod Siluro with flash bulbs, and moved through most of the Nikonos range, then into housed Compacts and SLRs, from film to digital, from wide angle to now mostly macro. I’ve dived much of the GBR, a lot of the Coral Triangle and spent thousands of hours underwater in my own backyard - the Sunshine Coast waters of Queensland. I capture images of all types of marine life but I have a penchant for the sea slugs, but not just the slugs themselves per se but of slugs doing things, believe it or not, - feeding, defending, mating, spawning etc.
