Hydrodynamic Silence and Swimming Techniques Marine Biology of Sharks

Text an Images by MIKE SCOTLAND

Silver Tip Whalers swim with precise control and balance.

Sharks are right into Hydrodynamics. W e too have the need for speed. We know about the physics of water; Ship design, Buoyancy and eddy currents. Scientists who “discovered” these concepts are regarded as geniuses. Grey Reef sharks race in at speed when the skipper of our boat drops a fish frame over your head on a night dive to liven things up .

Their ‘ground breaking revelations’ have been used by sharks for millions of years. Sharks live and hunt by the most advanced code of water science. Humans are just beginning to identify many subtle aspects of shark design. The future is clear; we have much to learn.
